Curriculum Vitae
Inscape Joinery has been in business since 1984. We are a small friendly, family run building company which specialises in intricate building projects. The company is based just outside Dalkeith in the grounds of Newbattle Abbey College where its workshops and offices are situated. It employs a total of 22 people covering a number of trades:

The company directors are Steve and Gail Evans. Steve started the company in 1984, he is a time served wood machinist and has completed a degree in sociology at Edinburgh University. He was responsible for much of the building work in many of our earlier projects but these days his role is in project managing the jobs on site. Gail runs the office and the workshops.
The administration team is completed by Aidan Kirke who has a degree in architecture from the Edinburgh School of Art. Aidan's principle role is co-ordinating all the works on site with their respective designers/architects and the associated programme management. He also produces all our construction drawings where required and provides design input when it is needed.
Our workshops produce all of the bespoke furniture required in the construction of projects and we have a small team of skilled workshop personnel responsible for this.
On site we have three foremen, as well as time served joiners and five apprentices. We also have, in house, our own team of builders and masons as well as our own decorators.
We sub contract specialist trades such as roofing and plastering, electrical and plumbing from tried and tested tradesmen who we have worked with over many years. But we are also happy to work with other trades recommended by our clients or their architects.
We have a very good reputation for producing, often technically difficult, highly crafted work and we have collaborated with many of Scotland's leading contemporary architects. We have worked for all manner of clients from Judges and Lawyers to Authors and other Architects and we have won many major architectural awards in the process. Our ethos has always been not to make a problem out of an idea and we try to approach each new project with a fresh positive attitude.
