Inscape have begun work to Allermuir House in Colinton for Malcolm Fraser Architects and clients Sue and Scott Gibson.
The original house was built in 1879 by architect Robert Rowand Anderson. It was his family home until he died in 1921 shortly after his wife Margaret passed away.
Anderson was probably the best Scottish architect of his time. He was born in Fernieside in Liberton and amongst his many and distinguished projects are Edinburgh University's McEwan Hall and Medical School, The Scottish Portrait Gallery on Queen Street and Glasgow's Central Station and Station Hotel. He was also the creator of the famous dome over The Old College, one of Edinburgh's most important skyline features.

This very contemporary extension to a Category A listed building has been carefully designed by Malcolm Fraser's to enhance the original building. It will also help it to reflect, one hundred years later, a different style of living, giving the house a direct connection to rear garden, much more the focus of family living these days.

Some of the older service buildings added to the house have been demolished to make way for the new extension which will house a modern kitchen and dining space. There will be a connection back into the main house via a 'secret' door into the central hallway and through a beautiful and authentic timber paneled wall.
The area of the garden facing the extension is also being extensively landscaped and the work here has been designed by Horner and Maclennan, Landscape Architects.
