Inscape Joinery "To deny the present would mean denying the past."

Many years ago I worked for a small building company in Liverpool and this, as I remember it, is largely a true story.
It was common in those days to rib the new apprentices and in our company the new apprentice painter was usually sent for striped paint on his first day.
One particularly gullible apprentice was sent back by the store man to his journeyman to ask what colours he wanted the stripes. The painter sent the apprentice back telling him to ask for blue and red stripes. This time the store man asked him which way the stripes were to run, up and down or side to side. Back goes the hapless apprentice to the painter who tells him he wanted vertical stripes... Were the stripes to be even thickness or alternative thick and thin??
As I remember, the process went on for some time before the men showed mercy.
The apprentice eventually qualified as a painter himself but would never paint a striped wall!

Great story! I remember being sent to the stores myself as a young apprentice for a long weight. (wait)
And that's what happened, eventually the store man said 'you can go back now son you've waited long enough.'
